I know everybody is concerned with the two-legged victims of Hurricane Katrina, and rightfully so, but there are also the four-leggedv victims. If you can’t afford to give money (or give more money) or you’re unable to take in evacuees or if you’re just able to help with the animals, the following email was forwarded to me see the following information:
PetFinder is trying to (unofficially) coordinate the national foster and adoption efforts for pets that have been rescued. Your best bet though is to contact your nearest Humane Society chapter. Or, if you prefer, you can make a donation.
Update: The original post was removed. Unfortunately, when I called about the email I received I was referred to a website that let me know it was a misunderstanding. A woman who was not affiliated with a shelter in Mississippi tried to help them get their animals adopted. The animals were not rescued from hurricane Katrina, but they do still need a home. The shelter, Carams, can be found here.
