As for Adium - you may also want to look into: Proteus (now free) at http://www.defaultware.com/proteus/ Similar features to Adium, but more OS X-like. I've tried them all, but now I can use iChat for MSN, Yahoo, ICQ and, of course, AIM accounts, it wins out with its wonderful simplicity and Appleness..... Have fun....
